Kenny discovered a new interest in 2008...running 5 mile "Mud Runs". Basically, you run a 5 mile course that has several mud pits along the trail. In true MUD spirit, you're supposed to run through all the mud pits, but they save the "Mother of all Mud Pits" for the finish line. This one was in Monterrey, CA (on the old Ft. Ord post). The girls and I waited for Kenny at the finish line. I tried (I sware I did!!!) to keep the girls out of the H-U-G-E mud pit while we waited for Kenny's team, but it was too much of a temptation. I surpressed my OCD and let them have at it. They had a blast throwing mud on the runners and they leapt for the finish line. (That wasn't their idea, they were encouraged by the Army soldiers who were in the pit to ensure maximum muddiness of the runners. BUT, they were more than happy to oblige!! The crowd thought it was pretty funny.) They ended up muddier than most of the runners. I stood back and watched in amusement, thanking my lucky stars I had packed an extra change of clothes for all of them.

And the Decker Clan Began

Kenny made all my dreams come true when he proposed to me on March 9, 1996. I don't remember a word of the actual proposal, but I do remember he was very nervous and I was very surprised. After a few minutes of me sitting there with my mouth hanging open in shock and amazement, he looked up at me with big brown eyes and said in a pleading voice, "Well, aren't you going to say anything??" (Did he think I'd say "no"????!!?) With a "yes" answer, we rushed back to my apartment to tell my mom (who just happened to be visiting) and my sister. I tried to be sly about hiding the ring, but it was pretty obvious by our faces what had happened. Mom could tell right off. Since my sister had just gotten married, we joked about my dad going into the poor house. Mom was excited to have something major to plan for again...I found a dress that same weekend and we started making plans right away for a June wedding.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone!!! We had a great little party for the youth at our church last night...kicking off the new year and the new scripture theme for 2010. I surprised myself and stayed awake for all of the festivities!! My girls were all asleep by the time I got home, but we've had a good start to the new year today.

One of my new year resolutions is to figure this blog thing out. Those that know me know I'm not a real "techy" person, so this is taking me out of my comfort zone. :-) I'm determined to do it, though!!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy new year's day!! Relax and enjoy!!
